Toy Drive 2010- Gifts for HUNDREDS of Children!!!

The holiday season is a time to reflect on all the joys and blessings in our lives. It is a time for kindness, generosity and selflessness. It is comforting to know that in a time of economic despair, generosity does not falter. The true spirit of giving has been encapsulated this season with an incredible response of donated toys and gifts.

In a short two-week span, the foundation has managed to collect over 2,000 toys and gifts due to the solid community of Floral Park and surrounding neighborhoods that came together in response to helping families in need this Christmas season.    The toys will benefit needy children, ages spanning from infant to 15 year olds, and will be hand-delivered from  December 21-23, 2010.  Local Floral Park families, as well as surrounding areas in Nassau County and New York City, submitted Christmas lists to the foundation to ensure that their children will receive the gifts that they want this year.

The outpouring of generosity has been truly amazing, Read the rest of this entry »

Happy 9th Birthday Sweet Alyson

Dear Alyson,

Happy 9th birthday.  I wish I could be with you to celebrate your special day.  I know you wanted an ice skating party for your 9th birthday.  I would give anything to watch you ice skate with all  of your friends for just one minute.

I remember bringing you home from the hospital on Dec 24th.  You had a smile on your face that never left.  At 14 months old,  Emma knew what a great Christmas present you were to all of us. You and Emma were two peas in a pod, never apart.  I would watch the two of you together and I knew in my heart  that I needed to have Katie. You needed to be a big sister too!  You helped me from the minute I got home from the hospital with Katie. You would rub Katie’s head and hum to her; she loved it.  Katie is so lucky to have you and Emma as her big sisters.

Alyson, I miss everything about you.  I miss your big beautiful blue eyes.  I miss your smile.  I miss you walking in the door from school and saying, “Yummy Mommy. What smells so good?”  You loved to help me cook.  I miss your laugh. You have the best laugh. It is so contangious. I miss playing the “haha game” in the car with the three of you.  I would start by saying the first “Ha”  Then it was Emma’s turn, then yours and by the time it was Katie’s turn, we would all be hysterical.  You would say, “Mommy we have to stop. My belly hurts from laughing so much.”  I miss Friday nights watching What Not To Wear together.  You would always say, “Mommy, you could work on this show.  You dress the best.”  You would laugh because you made a ryhme.  I miss you wearing my shoes around the house and telling me, “I can’t wait till we can share shoes.” I miss watching you at your table in the basement making pictures for your teachers and friends.  I miss everything about you.

I am so sad to not be with you everyday,  but especially today.  My heart does not beat without you. I want to give you a giant hug and never let go.  I hope you are ice skating today!  I love you Alyson.

Love-Mommy

Blood Drive an Enormous Success!

It is with gratitude and pride that we announce the phenomenal success of this year’s blood drive:

An amazing   271 Units of Blood were Collected!

 AND

235 Individuals signed up to the Bone Marrow Registry!

This is an outstanding number because prior to the drive they indicated 50 new registrants would be an excellent turnout. The people at the bone marrow registry were extremely grateful, as of course was John Sullivan and his family.  Hopefully a match was found for John or someone else in need.

Thank you SO much to the amazing volunteers who donated their time and effort and to all those who gave blood and those who put off eating Oreos until AFTER they swabbed a cheek for the registry!

You are all amazing people, and the world is a better place for you all being in it.

Our Mission Statement
The Hance Family Foundation has been founded to honor the memories of Emma, Alyson and Kate Hance, who died in a tragic car accident on July 26, 2009 at ages 8, 7 and 5.

The funds raised for this Foundation will be used to support children’s endeavors, with an initial emphasis on serving the children of the Village of Floral Park. The intention of the Foundation is to honor the memories of these extraordinary girls by helping as many children as possible, in as many ways as possible.

The Hance family is deeply grateful for the overwhelming response to the Foundation’s creation and looks forward to directing the funds toward worthy causes. With the generous support of both strangers and friends alike, the Hance Family Foundation will have a tremendous impact on many young people and will celebrate Emma, Alyson and Kate’s lives by providing resources to children in need.

Healthy, safe and happy children are the highest priority for the Hance Family Foundation.
