EAK Day with the Islanders!
The 3rd Annual Emma, Alyson, and Katie Hance Day with the NY Islanders was a great time!
Well over 450 HFF supporters arrived at Nassau Colliseum on Sunday to enjoy hot dogs, music, games, and each other’s company. Official HFF Shirts this year were bright blue, and it was a treat to see them taking over first the parking lot, and then the stands inside the Colliseum. What a great feeling, to look around and know that every blue shirt, all around the rink, meant another person remembering Emma, Alyson, and Katie; another person helping to form the tremendous legacy that is The Hance Family Foundation – a phenomenal organization for children.
The Islanders, as always, were wonderful hosts, interviewing Board member Brad Katinas, and showcasing the HFF logo all over the JumboTron. Two HFF supporters also spent some time on the ice: they were eligible for the snapshot competition. John Power and Keith Reichert tried their hardest to win the grand prize – a NEW CAR!!…. No such luck, but there’s always next year.
100 of our participants came as the Foundation’s guests: children and staff members of PAL in New York City. We have a formed a strong partnership with this wonderful organization, and there are Beautiful Me groups ongoing at their sites throughout the year.
Third time’s a charm- and truly the charm of this special day will be remembered for a long time.
You and Me Bowling Together 2012= FUN!
On Saturday, March 10, members of EAK Projects…You & Me took part in the second annual You & Me Bowling Together. Nearly 100 students from Washington Street School, Floral Park-Bellerose School, and John Lewis Childs School were invited to us at the Sheridan Lanes in Mineola.
Kids bowled together with their buddies and made new friends from different schools, all with the help of student volunteers from Floral Park Memorial High School. Meanwhile, parents got a chance to socialize with other parents they may not have normally spent time with. Everyone was treated to snacks, pizza, dessert, and even a few raffles prizes.
You & Me expanding outside the boundaries of school – what a fun experience for all!

Happy Birthday to our sweet, kind, Katie
Happy birthday Katie,
I can not believe you’re 8 today, I am just so sad to think about not being with you everyday, but especially today. There is not a word that can describe the pain I have not being able to give u a giant hug and kiss. You give the best kisses, I would give anything for one more kiss from you.
If you were here with mmommy and daddy we would be on our way to Vermont to go skiing with Aunt Isabelle, Uncle Mark, Aunt Melissa and Uncle Brad. We would be staying in that fabulous we stayed in, the last time you skiied. You and Abbey would be loving ski school by now, not like the last time, when you both had to be bribed every morning to go. We would have cake for you and Ryan, he is 12 today. I know you would have really taken to skiing like mma and Alyson were. I can not think about ever skiing again, there are so many things that I can not bring myself to do without you. I loved skiing, but now it makes me cry. No Woodloch and no Vermont since you left. I hope you’re having a great day playing in the snow and skiing down the perfect slope with Emma and Alyson.
Thank you for being such a big help with Kasey, you are a great big sister. Kiss your sisters for me.
Love mommy

Toy Drive 2011- Update
The 2011 Christmas Toy Drive collected over 3000 toys and gifts for over 800 underprivileged children.
On Monday, December 19th, the HFF elves delivered gifts to over 250 children at St. Luke’s elementary school in the Bronx, located in the poorest congressional district in the United States. A second delivery later in the week was delivered in the same neighborhood to St. Ann’s, an after school program for local children. There, 75 children received over 250 gifts.
In addition, in an extension of the Toy Drive, that Tuesday, gifts were delivered to over 40 children at Village Academy in Far Rockaway. These gifts were purchased from the Heart, Hands, Hope Project budget and included clothing for these children in the correct sizes, a privilege not accorded to many during our drive because of the sheer volume of children we deliver to.
On Thursday, December 22nd, the Foundation met 100 children at the 23rd NYPD Precinct on 162 E. 102nd Street. Santa was on hand to distribute toys and gifts to mainly shelter children brought to us by a local social worker, or recommended to us by the officers at the precinct. Here too, a second delivery was made to this very needy neighborhood, on Christmas Eve, to accommodate families who arrived too late the first night. The HFF’s elves tried their very hardest to be sure no child was left without a gift on Christmas.
To close out the 2011 Toy Drive, volunteers from the Foundation also discreetly delivered to individual local families in nearby Hempstead, Elmont, Franklin Square, and Floral Park who are struggling financially, and who may not have had a Christmas without help.
This year’s Toy Drive was an amazing success. We collected over 3000 gifts under the guidance of Kate Tuffy. Special thanks goes out to all the businesses who participated in our drive and helped collect all these toys and gifts, as well as to all the volunteers who donated their time picking up toys, sorting toys, and delivering toys, including the FDNY Engine 83, Hook & Ladder 29. This could not have been so successful without you all – your time and efforts are greatly appreciated during this busy time of year!
By the end of this year’s toy drive, over 800 children received a gift from the Hance Family Foundation in memory of our three beautiful angels – Emma, Alyson, and Katie. Thank you ALL for helping us to honor the girls in this remarkable way.
Merry Christmas and warm wishes for a Happy & Healthy New Year!
Happy Birthday to our Amazing Alyson Elizabeth
I cannot believe you are 10 today. I know exactly what I would buy you : an easel and canvas, also paint and brushes. You were the best artist, you made so many beautiful pictures for me. All your artwork is still hanging in the basement. You made so many books with a picture on every page. I had a dream you became an art teacher and you also wrote children’s books with amazing illustrations. It was a great dream and you were such a beautiful, happy woman…and then I woke up.
I miss you so much, Alyson. Every time I look at your pictures in the basement, I see you smiling at the table, with your crayons and paper, making pictures for your teachers and friends. You would sit at that table drawing for hours.
I want you to know that I appreciate all the help you and your sisters are giving me every day. I really want to be a good mommy to Kasey - like I was to you, Emma, and Katie. Whenever I am having a hard time, I stop and take a minute, and sing her our special song. Thank you for all your help.
Happy Birthday. I know you’re making beautiful art in heaven and I cannot wait until you get to show me someday.
I love you,
Mom
