Happy Birthday Sweet Angel. Did you see the beautiful pink balloons we sent to you? It felt like you were there with us. Everybody told their favorite Katie memories. Mine were your kisses. But I had pictures of you wearing your mommy’s big sunglasses and shoes in my mind the whole time. It made me think of you dressing up all the time and playing so nicely. Your friends miss you so much. I miss you so much. Not a day goes by that I don’t wish you were here.

I thank you, Katie – and, Alyson and Emma, too, for being my very own Guardian Angels. I know that you have guided me in so many small ways, because whenever I ask the three of you for your help (I don’t ask for big favors — just little ones, like helping me find my car keys, or to help me find my eyeglasses, or even finding me a parking space in crowded mall), I always have my request answered shortly thereafter… I always try to remember to say “Thank You” to the three of you, each time you answer my request!
I still smile, and even chuckle to myself, when I look back at some of our fun times. I remember so vividly our late night “Knock-Knock” jokes when I would be baby sitting on a weekend. Emma, Aly and I would be laughing so much, in their bedroom (they actually were supposed to be asleep!). You, Katie, were in your own little bedroom, close by. You absolutely wanted NO PART of those “silly Knock-Knock” jokes — you were much too “sophisticated” for that! Eventually you would yell out to us “Stop making all that noise! I’m trying to SLEEP!” Of course, you would be wearing your “jeweled” sleep mask that Mommy bought for you… Well, after that demand from you, we whispered to each other! You, Katie, even though you were the youngest, you DID rule the household!
Katie, the enduring love that I have in my heart for you, Alyson and Emma grows deeper and stronger as each day, week and month passes. (Maybe it’s happening more so, as I grow older, as Nanas do). You made me laugh again and feel young again whenever I was with the three of you. You were the loves of, and the joy of, my life. I treasure each fun and happy memory that I shared with you. You, Aly and Emma were “Sheer Perfection” and a gift from God, created by your wonderful Mommy and Daddy. The three of you brightened and enriched the lives of everyone who knew you, in the time that you were here, with us.

I was really good friends with Emma. I am sitting at my desk right now and i thought about Emma. I really miss her, I miss all three of them! We had sooo many great times together. From soccer to school, it was the best. Once i heard about the accident a few years ago, i almost died myself, i was sooo sad. i wish i had the chance to say good by to her. I dont know if her name is familiar but im in class with a Girl named Chloe K. she used to know emma, i was soo happy to know that someone went through the same thing i was going through. I really hope everything is great and hope to see you guys soon!!!!!

The Hance Family Foundation has been founded to honor the memories of Emma, Alyson and Kate Hance, who died in a tragic car accident on July 26, 2009 at ages 8, 7 and 5.
The funds raised for this Foundation will be used to support children’s endeavors, with an initial emphasis on serving the children of the Village of Floral Park. The intention of the Foundation is to honor the memories of these extraordinary girls by helping as many children as possible, in as many ways as possible.
The Hance family is deeply grateful for the overwhelming response to the Foundation’s creation and looks forward to directing the funds toward worthy causes. With the generous support of both strangers and friends alike, the Hance Family Foundation will have a tremendous impact on many young people and will celebrate Emma, Alyson and Kate’s lives by providing resources to children in need.
