The EAK Projects…

The Hance Family Foundation is dedicated to providing innovative educational programs for children of all ages and abilities–as a way to honor Emma, Alyson, & Katie Hance. We proudly present the EAK Projects, three very successful & original educational programs, created and implemented by The Hance Family Foundation to help enhance and develop the confidence and self esteem of all children. Beginning in Pre K and continuing through teenage years the program is designed to give all children a greater sense of self and community using a variety of age appropriate materials and strategies.

The Foundation’s main logo includes 3 very important words : Heart, Hands, and Hope. The EAK Projects each tie into those words, and while the three projects have a bit of each, each leans toward one of the three more strongly. Beautiful Me is about loving yourself (with you heart), You and Me is about making new friends and reaching out to others (with your hands), and Grow with Me is planting something because you want it to grow….and that implies a hope for the future.

…Beautiful Me

The mission of  Beautiful Me—the Emma, Alyson & Kate Hance Project is to extend the lessons Emma, Alyson, and Kate taught through their examples…that being comfortable with who you are makes you a better sister, daughter, and friend. This project is designed to teach girls of all ages how to think positively and with assurance about their bodies, their skills, and their relationships with others. Increased self-esteem has been proven to help girls succeed academically, physically, socially, and personally. The Hance Family Foundation is dedicated to promoting education for all children.

(There is a suggested $15.00 fee per girl for all 3 classes.)

The EAK Project…Beautiful Me is also offering a new opportunity for individuals and/or companies looking to sponsor a Beautiful Me Group.  This new program ,THE GIFT OF EDUCATION, allows you to sponsor a group in a less fortunate area.  Sponsors will receive a thank you card and photo of the group sponsored.

This makes for a very thoughtful gift or remembrance.

…You and Me

The You and Me program pairs special needs students with a classroom mentor. The goal of this program is to make the experience of the special needs student more typical of that of a regular student not only in the classroom but all aspects of community life.  This peer mentoring project consists of over 20 instructional modules, which center around improving social skills for children withspecial needs, as well as creating truly inclusive environments both in school and in our community for all children.  The Hance Family Foundation provides each participant with original, innovative lessons, with journals for the bi-monthly meetings, and with various games/materials.  Emma, Alyson, & Kate showed their compassion for all children and their ability to include others through their real examples.  This curriculum based program has been administered in the Floral Park-Bellerose School and Franklin Square School Districts to great success.

…Grow with Me

A child who plants a seed and watches it grow over time develops an understanding of the cycle of life and the process of nature. His or her self esteem grows in direct proportion with the flower: “Look what I’ve helped create, look what I am capable of!”  Grow with Me is a school day program for all 5th grade students in Floral Park. The day is constructed around the NYS Science Standards for Fifth Grade.  Through Grow with Me, The Hance Family Foundation strives to teach children to take ownership of their world, and as the children all work together, their sense of community will grow right alongside their self esteem, as the children see first hand what kind of impact their hard work can have.

    To the Hance Family Foundation:
Thank you so much for the wonderful programs you have at Floral Park – Bellerose School. My daughter enjoyed the “You and Me” group so much the past two years. She has learned so much and she has made great friends. The bowling trip and CYO track with the “You and Me” group were fantastic. Both events were so well planned and everyone had a great time. My daughter also loved the “Beautiful Me” program for the sixth grade girls. The Hance Family Foundation has helped my daughter in so many ways with these inspirational and innovative programs. I am very grateful for all that you do. I will always keep the Hance family in my heart and prayers.

    Sincerely,
    Deirdre M

  • Megan:

I knew Emma. She was a sport friend. She was on my soccer team almost every year and my basketball team We weren’t close friends but we passed the ball and we got each others rebounds. I sometimes think if I make a basket I wish that she was there to get my rebound. I miss Emma sometimes. I think of it as she went on vacation.(a long vacation). The next day it happened I drew Emma as an angel. I didn’t know Alyson and Kate but I knew they were just like there sister Emma, friendly nice, and beautiful .I went to the beautiful me project. I LOVED IT!!!! I want to go to every meeting. I hope Emma is watching over us cause she’s a beautiful angel and she’s probably happy that she’s with her two sisters they got each others back a lot and always. I hope that I can try to make it for most of the projects even for the pre-k and kindergarten. I would love to take my neighbor who’s in kindergarten and volunteer. I’m also going to the 5th grade Floral Park Centennial Gardens project and I know I am gonna have a lot of fun! Also, I went to the Family Fun Day and if there’ s one every year, which I hope there is, I’m going to attend every year! I’ m never going to forget them!
    Love Always,
    Megan Martin
